Conversations on Increasing Access in Dance ~ Appreciating Dance with Visually Impaired People ~

Barrier-free Japanese subtitles: In addition to the name of the speaker and the language being spoken, the main sound information, such as music and sound effects, is written in Japanese.

DaBY has started various initiatives with the aim of becoming a platform to “open dance” to society. For this project, we explored ways to appreciate dance with visually impaired people. We believe that this attempt will help break down the barriers to dance spectatorship and potentially undo the assumption that dance is difficult to “watch.” By sharing each other’s experiences in the same space, we hope we can recognize new sensations and appreciate dance more deeply.

A dancehouse that designs and organizes projects that specifically aim to improve the Japanese professional dance environment and support emerging creatives. In order to approach dance through an interdisciplinary lens, the space will facilitate exchanges not only between artists such as choreographers and dancers, but also between musicians, visual artists, video artists, lighting designers, producers, production teams, critics, researchers, and audience members.
